This is a chance for students who cannot make time for travel and competition. You will bring debate to our local campus using common formats and will need to participate in weekly meetings to prepare. In addition to practice, you will need to be available to promote our events and support tournaments hosted on campus.
Event Information
Individual Events
There are eleven events regularly offered on the collegiate circuit. They consist of interpretation events, prepared platform or speaking events, and limited preparation speech events. The team competes under regulations of the American Forensics Association National Speech Tournament (AFA-NST), and the National Forensics Association (NFA). Both organizations offer essentially the same events, with a few differences.
Debate Events
The team currently competes in National Forensics Association Lincoln-Douglas Debate. This format is one-on-one debate and, unlike high school LD debate, utilizes a policy topic.
The National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA) governs rules and regulations for team parliamentary debate.
The International Public Debate Association (IPDA) governs rules and regulations for competitive public debate.
